Tampa Uber driver Lisa Vasquez recounted how one of her rides during the holiday season developed into a lasting friendship after she assisted a passenger facing financial difficulties. This statement was made during an interview on January 8.

“Little did I have any idea that me helping her that one week… she had no way to work, she had no more money. She was waiting on a check, and now we have become incredible friends,” said Vasquez, Rideshare Driver.

Vasquez, who works as a rideshare driver in Tampa, Florida, shared a series of events that led her to rebuild her life and extend help to others. She explained that her interactions with passengers often transform into opportunities for connection and support. In one instance, she assisted a passenger without money or transportation to work by driving her for a week without expecting payment. The passenger later expressed gratitude for Vasquez’s generosity when able to offer compensation.

According to Vasquez, she wanted to share her testimony about a pivotal moment when she decided to dedicate her efforts to supporting her community. She revealed this experience while discussing her book, “Taken by Surprise: How God Saved Me Literally.” Vasquez describes such moments as integral to her mission, which she attributes to her faith.

The rising cost of living in Tampa has posed challenges for residents. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Consumer Price Index for the Tampa area increased by 5.5% over the past 12 months, affecting prices for essentials such as food, housing, and transportation. This economic backdrop highlights the difficulties many locals face in managing their daily expenses.

Uber Florida provides a platform connecting drivers and passengers, enabling drivers to earn income while meeting transportation needs within their communities. Operating since 2017, the company supports individuals like Vasquez who use their roles as drivers not only for transport but also as an opportunity to offer assistance beyond rides, fostering reliable and accessible service for Florida residents.
