Anthony C. Brewer, a 47-year-old resident of Tallahassee, has pleaded guilty to theft of government funds after misusing money intended for a military veteran under the Department of Veterans Affairs’ fiduciary program. The announcement was made by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
According to court documents, Brewer had agreed to act as a fiduciary and manage monetary benefits on behalf of an individual unable to do so themselves. As part of this role, he was required to use the funds solely for the care and well-being of the beneficiary. However, between October 7, 2020, and January 9, 2023, Brewer misused and stole funds provided by the VA.
U.S. Attorney Heekin stated: “I applaud the excellent work of our federal law enforcement partner to identify and investigate this theft of government funds that were intended to support one of our brave military veterans. My office will continue to aggressively prosecute those who seek to steal U.S. government monies intended to benefit our veterans.”
The investigation was conducted by the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General’s Criminal Investigations Division. Assistant United States Attorney Harley W. Ferguson is prosecuting the case.
Brewer’s sentencing is scheduled for February 2, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the United States Courthouse in Tallahassee before Chief United States District Judge Allen C. Winsor.
