Women make up majority of population in Florida in 2021

Of the 21,339,762 people living in Florida in 2021, 50.8% (10,850,214) were women and 49.2% (10,489,548) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by Sunshine Sentinel.

Data showed the average age for women in Florida in 2021 was 44 years, higher than the national average of 40 for women. Meanwhile, Florida's male population stands at an average age of 41 years, placing them higher than the US average of 38.

According to census data, women aged 18 and over outnumbered men in the same age group by 62,944, totaling 6,397,214 individuals. Meanwhile, in the 65 and over group, there were 1,976,902 men and 2,370,063 women.

Data for this story was compiled from the bureau's American Community Survey. Information from the survey helps to determine how federal and state funds are distributed.
