WASHINGTON, D.C. – On June 30, 2023, Senator Rick Scott applauded the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down President Joe Biden’s unconstitutional student loan “forgiveness” plan that would have shifted the burden of student loan debts onto millions of American taxpayers.

Senator Rick Scott said, “The only people surprised by today's decision work in Joe Biden's White House. This decision by the Supreme Court simply reflects common sense and an accurate reading of the Constitution – two things that Joe Biden is incapable of. Hardworking Americans like plumbers and welders should not subsidize the law school bills of elite lawyers. We all know it. I'm glad to see the Supreme Court reject Joe Biden's latest publicity stunt.

“We need to get back to what our Founding Fathers envisioned for our nation with the Constitution: pursuit of the American dream by working hard, sticking to your commitments and being accountable to yourself and others, not demanding government handouts.”

Senator Scott has introduced the Debt Cancellation Accountability Act to stop any further attempts by Biden to “forgive” student loans by requiring Congressional approval for any mass cancellation of student debt. The Senator has also proposed real solutions to address the skyrocketing costs of higher education for students, including his Changing Our Learning, Loans, Endowments, and Graduation Expectations (COLLEGE) Act to force universities to take more responsibility for preparing students for success and accountability for rising costs.
