In March 1973, eight women began flight school in Pensacola, Florida, making them the first-ever female naval aviators. Six of those women, nicknamed ‘The First Six,’ earned their Wings of Gold.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) led a bipartisan resolution commemorating 50 years of women serving as naval aviators in the United States.  In addition to honoring ‘The First Six,’ the resolution recognizes the critical role of the Naval Air Station Pensacola and the entire Pensacola, Florida, community in this historic milestone.

Senator Rubio was joined in his efforts by Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL).
