Explore Nature in November at Riverbend Park

Riverbend Park is operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and is located at 9060 Indiantown Road, Jupiter. For more information on Riverbend Park, visit www.pbcnature.com. All programs are by online reservation only, unless otherwise stated. Please register online at www.pbcparks.com; under “Online Services” click on Register/Pay for Program, or visit the office to register and make payment. All participants are required to sign a Program Participation Form before each program. All children must be accompanied by an adult. All programs run approximately 90 minutes depending upon experience level of participants. Please bring drinking water, sunscreen, and insect repellent to each program. NATURALIST WALKS

Thursdays, 9:00 a.m.

All ages, FREE (Reservations required)

Join naturalists each week for a 1-hour guided walk exploring the trails of Riverbend Park. It’s a great way to become familiar with the plant and animal communities, trails and historic events of the park. Call to 561-741-1359 reserve.

BATTLEFIELD TOURS

Saturdays, 10:00 a.m.

All ages, FREE (Reservations required)

Join a Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationist docent on a battlefield

tour and learn of the Second Seminole War battles that occurred here.

PIONEER FARMSTEAD DAY

Saturday, November 5, 10:00 am-2:00 pm

All ages, FREE (Reservations not required)

Spend the day on Riverbend Park’s Turn of the Century Farmstead. Experience what pioneer life was like back then and how technology changed a way of life. Visit the belt driven sawmill and watch sawyers cut and plane logs into boards. Yesteryear Village partners will be onsite to show crafts and riding demonstrations of the period. Make sure to visit the Florida Flywheelers and other exhibitors as well as the animal pens and help press sugar cane. Toys, games and a craft table will be available for kids.

FULL MOON BIKE RIDE

Friday, November 11, 6:30 p.m.

Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)

Join a naturalist on a moonlit, nighttime bike ride. See the park after hours and look at nature from the point of view of its nocturnal residents. Appropriate safety gear and water is required. Bring your own bike or rent from the park vendor, Jupiter Outdoor Center, 561-747-0063.

ORIENTEERING

Saturday, November 12, 9:30 a.m.

Ages 10+, $10/participant (Reservations required)

Lost in the park? This program will cover the basic parts, terms and usage of a compass so one can take a bearing and walk a course. Good walking shoes are recommended.

HISTORY IN THE PARK

Saturday, November 12, 10:00 a.m.

All ages, FREE (Reservations not required)

Join our non-profit group the Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationists for a presentation by a guest speaker. Docents will conduct a walking tour of the battlefield following the presentation.

ARCHERY 101

Saturday, November 19, 9:30 a.m.

Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)

Join USA Archery and N.F.A.A. certified staff to learn about archery! This exciting program teaches archery safety and how to properly use the equipment before getting to practice on the range. Equipment is provided. Note: Bows may be difficult to pull for smaller children.

OPEN RANGE ARCHERY

Saturday, November 19, 12:00 p.m.

Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required - call 561-741-1359 to register)

Join USA Archery and N.F.A.A. certified staff to hone your archery skills! This program is offered to archers who have attended 2 basic archery courses at Riverbend Park. Archers will shoot at different targets and different distances. Basic safety review will be conducted before heading to the range. Equipment is provided. Note: Bows may be difficult to pull for smaller children.

PHOTO FUNDAMENTALS

Monday, November 21, 8:30 a.m.

Ages 10+, $10/participant (Reservations required)

Learn essential camera functions and composition basics in nature/wildlife photography! Join staff for a morning hike around Riverbend Park to put your new knowledge into practice. You must bring your own camera, along with a battery and a storage card. Tripods/monopods are recommended but not required. Dress for hiking, bring water.

FISHING FUN

Saturday, November 26, 9:30 a.m.

Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)

Learn basic fishing techniques and safety while fishing for the big one!
