EFSC's student cheerleading squad will compete in the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Collegiate Championship being held in Daytona Beach April 7-9.
The 13-member team will compete in the Intermediate Coed Junior College Division, with its first routine scheduled for shortly before 9:30 a.m. during the Thursday, April 7 morning session.
The competition will be held in the Ocean Center Arena located at 101 N Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach and the public is welcome to attend. The competition will also be livestreamed on Varsity TV, with EFSC's Melbourne Campus Library in Building 2 showing the event live on its big screen tablet for anyone who wants to stop by to watch live. (On Thursday, April 7 EFSC is currently scheduled for a 9:24 a.m. start time with Friday's time to be determined).
The Titan cheerleaders earned the Bronze-level bid to the national event during a camp held at EFSC last summer that included two NCA instructors who judged their camp routine.
They have put in months of practice, which they have documented on their @EFSCCheer Instagram.
"The team is really excited to compete and represent Eastern Florida State College at the 2022 NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach," said EFSC Associate Professor Ashley Olund, who coaches the squad along with Jessica Matheny.
"We are so grateful to EFSC, our Administration, and our Student Government for helping make this dream possible for us!"
The cheerleaders are chosen through an annual tryout process and they perform at multiple college athletics games, plus represent EFSC at other college and community events.
Spectator tickets for the championship can be purchased at a cost of $25 per day for Thursday and Friday and $10 for Saturday or $50 for the three-day event. Seating is first-come, first-serve.
