Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services issued the following announcement on Feb. 25.
Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Nikki Fried released the following statement on the news that President Biden will nominate Floridian Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court.
“There is no better choice to be the United States’ next Supreme Court Justice than Ketanji Brown Jackson, a fellow graduate of my alma mater Miami Palmetto Senior High. Her appointment is historic and she will bring a wealth of experience to our highest court and the federal judicial system. Ms. Brown Jackson will bring a much-needed perspective to the Court as a Black woman, a former public defender, and a public school graduate. I’m proud to support her nomination.”
Last week, Commissioner Fried sent a letter ] to President Biden advocating for Brown Jackson to be nominated for the seat.

I write today to urge your strong consideration of Ketanji Brown Jackson as your nominee to the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Brown Jackson is eminently qualified to serve on our nation’s highest court; she was confirmed to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit with bipartisan support in 2021 and previously served as a federal trial court judge, a public defender, and as vice chairman of the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
As a fellow graduate of my alma mater, Miami Palmetto Senior High School, I am acutely aware of Ms. Brown Jackson’s unimpeachable reputation in Florida for her sedulousness and esteemed record of consensus-building.
I applaud your commitment to nominating a Black woman to the bench, understanding the enormous impact her presence would make on the Court, adding perspectives and experiences that have never before in our history been included. You have the opportunity to make history with this nomination, and I believe there is no better candidate than Ketanji Brown Jackson.
