The Grove Museum Announces Children’s Book Giveaway during Holiday Open House

Florida Secretary of State issued the following announcement on Dec. 3.

Secretary of State Laurel M. Lee announced today that The Grove Museum and Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend have partnered to offer free books during Stroll and Read at the Grove’s Winter Open House on Saturday, December 4.

“The Grove Museum and Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend have partnered to provide 100 free books for young children, promoting the role of community in preparing children for success in school,” said Secretary of State Laurel M. Lee. “Families with children ages 0-8 attending The Grove Museum’s Winter Open House on Saturday, December 4 will have the opportunity to receive a free book by participating in Stroll and Read. I personally invite the Tallahassee community and visitors to participate in this community event, enjoy the Museum’s festive décor, art activities, holiday treats, and, if you have a young child, bring home a free book.”

Wednesday through Saturday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

A highlight of The Grove Winter Open House will be the Early Learning Coalition (ELC) of Big Bend’s Stroll and Read program. The ELC works with over 300 child-care programs and local community partners to facilitate connections to early learning programs for approximately 7,000 children.

  • 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM—Families with children ages 0-8 will have the opportunity to participate in different reading stations on The Grove grounds. Once children have completed Stroll and Read, they will select their own book to take home and enjoy.                                                        
The Grove Winter Open House will also include:

  • 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM—The Frother's Daughter coffee trailer onsite with delicious drinks available for purchase.
  • 2:30 PM—Winter Storytime led by Grove staff. Reading It Never, Ever Snows in Floridaby Amy Sweezey, singing songs, and decorating ornaments together.
  • 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM—House tours on the hour throughout the day, last tour at 3:00 PM.
  • 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM—Information and activities provided by staff from the Florida State Archives and the Florida Historic Capitol Museum.
  • Other Fun All-Day Activities—Hot apple cider and treats; hands-on art activities; and outdoor toys and lawn games, including bocce ball, croquet, ring toss, and corn hole.
