Florida has filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration regarding its catch-and-release policies along the southern border
Ashley Moody, Florida's Attorney General, filed the lawsuit after U.S. Customs and Border Protection encountered over 200,000 migrants trying to enter the United States at the southern border in August, for the second month in a row.
"Floridians welcome responsible immigration that serves the interests of Florida and the American people, but we cannot abide the lawlessness that your department is aiding and abetting on the southwest border.” Gov. Ron DeSantis was quoted by Fox News as saying.
The lawsuit claims the Biden administration's "illegal policies cause Florida harm" and are "forcing the state to take on millions of dollars in expenses."
According to U.S. Code 1225, individuals who enter the U.S. through ports of entry or who are apprehended crossing the border illegally are classified as "arriving aliens" under immigration law and must be held until a decision regarding their entrance to the country is reached.
Moody argues that the Biden Administration's current immigration policies either violate U.S. Code 1225 or constitute an abuse of the administration's parole power.
