Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is sending Florida Fish and Wildlife officers to help in the search for Brian Laundrie, a person of interest in the killing of his fiance, Gabby Petito, whose body was discovered in Wyoming Sept. 19.
“I have directed all state agencies under my purview to continue to assist federal & local law enforcement as they continue to search - we need justice for Gabby Petito,” DeSantis tweeted Sept. 21.
The order was that the request from North Port police, the governor said. Fish and Wildlife officers are joining federal and local law enforcement officers in the search, Fox 13 reported.
Laundrie hasn't been seen since Sept. 14 according to his parents, the station reported. His parents retrieved his car from the 25,000 acre Carlton Preserve in Venice and law enforcement officers have been searching the preserve for several days, the story said.
The search has been hampered by rain and "unforgiving terrain," Venice police said, according to Fox 13.
Laundrie and Petitot were traveling across the country together, and he returned home to Venice without her in their van, the station reported.
Petito's body was found in Wyoming near where social media users saw the van in footage posted by tourists, the station said. A coroner confirmed the body was Petito.
