U.S. Rep. Carlos Gimenez of Florida confirmed his support of the Countering Communist China Act as one of its newest co-sponsors.
Gimenez joined 44 other Republicans who are in approval of the bill introduced by U.S. Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN).
“Democrats’ China spending bills fall short, so that’s why House conservatives are introducing our own China bill as a benchmark for how Congress should address the China threat,” Banks said in Republican Study Committee press release. “Their bill places a burden on taxpayers and lets China off easy, but our bill protects taxpayers and holds the Chinese Communist Party accountable.”
Banks filed the bill in the U.S. Congress in July as an alternative to the Democrat's proposed anti-China bill.
Among its provision is one to bar American companies that are getting federal subsidies “to go and expand their business in China affiliate with businesses with ties to the Chinese military,” according to the release.
The bill also included an amendment, the Red Tape Reduction Act, which was authored by U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA). Her bill would reinstate former President Donald Trump’s deregulation executive orders which include a requirement to eliminate two existing regulations for every new one proposed, require congressional approval for binding rules and require agencies to find a way to reduce spending when they propose an increase, according to a release from Hinson's office.
Gimenez is a Republican representing Florida's 26th District. He was elected in 2020.
