Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis visited and gave nearly $350,000 to Chipola College to expand its cybersecurity training program, particularly in training and certification opportunities in network security and digital forensics, on Aug. 6, News 4 reported.
“I believe we must expand workforce training opportunities so we can produce more graduates with cybersecurity skills," DeSantis said in a post to his Twitter account Aug. 7. "That’s why I’m pleased to announce that @ChipolaCollege will receive $350K from the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund to expand its cybersecurity training program.”
DeSantis also said that overseas threats were contributing to growth in the cybersecurity sector.
“If you look, there are cybersecurity problems every day that businesses, governments, you name it, they’re facing it,” DeSantis said. “You’ve got people from China and Russia and all these other places looking to cause a lot of havoc.”
According to a News 4 article, Chipola College officials stated there are over half a million unfilled cybersecurity jobs in the U.S. right now that it hopes to equip their students to fill. News 4 also reported that the money from the grant will be allocated to training and certification opportunities in network security and digital forensics as soon as next semester.
