Florida Executive Office of The Governor issued the following announcement on July 26.
On Tuesday, July 20, 2021, former Representative Joel Thomas Daves III passed away. Daves served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 until 1955. He was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1964 until 1966. Previously, Daves was appointed in 1959 and then elected to the office of Palm Beach County Solicitor in 1960. He also served on the West Palm Beach City Commission from 1992 until 1999 and as mayor of West Palm Beach from 1999 until 2003.
To honor the memory of former Representative Joel Thomas Daves III and his service to our state, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the Palm Beach County Courthouse in West Palm Beach, Florida, the City Hall of West Palm Beach, Florida, and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.
