U.S. Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) is calling out President Joe Biden for his stance on the recent surge in inflation rates and rising prices of consumer goods and services.

Biden has suggested that this inflation is transitory and that his economic agenda will tamp down inflation even with all of its spending, according to Fox Business.

“Joe Biden just doesn’t get it,” Scott wrote in a July 20 Twitter post. “Reckless spending causes inflation. More spending to slow down inflation makes as much sense as using gasoline to put out a fire.”

According to a July 13 report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the cost of living has increased 5.4% over the past 12 months. Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, experienced the largest increase over a year since November 1991 at 4.5%.

Inflation rose 0.9% in the previous month alone according to the same statistics bureau report.

Market Watch reported that the cost of used cars rose 10.5% in June, accounting for more than a third of the increase in overall consumer prices for the month. Gas prices have increased by 45% in the past year, and food prices have had the largest increase since 2011.
