The prevalent practice of censoring individuals by Big Tech companies has garnered the ire of Poland and that nation is fighting back by punishing those companies if they ban individuals from expressing their ideas.
Deputy Polish Justice Minister Sebastian Kaleta recently spoke with Fox News and told them that Big Tech companies have too much authority on who can speak freely on their platforms. He said that these companies have targeted conservatives too often and it has to stop.
Poland is working to impose a fine on social media companies that ban individuals from expressing their ideas through their platforms based on their hate speech policy. Kaleta told Fox News, "Freedom of speech is not something that anonymous moderators working for private companies should decide," he said, adding, ". . .that is for the national body; duly elected officials and all industries -- the same should happen with Big Tech."
Kaleta also criticized the removal of former President Donald Trump from social media platforms, saying that this move sets a dangerous precedent wherein Big Tech companies can easily ban any individual from practicing his or her right to free speech.
Other individuals who might welcome Kaleta’s sentiments are Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis and author Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy was himself banned from Instagram after sharing controversial posts about vaccines. Kennedy, who is a known anti-vaxxer, told the San Mateo Sun that his censorship is dangerous and “counterproductive.” DeSantis had a similar thing to say when he spoke with Sunshine Sentinel. He said that censoring individuals is akin to “political manipulation” and that it should be thwarted at all costs.
