Bluzelle, a database service provider, is offering a $500,000 grant to anyone who can develop a censorship-resistant application. The tech company’s motivation comes from the increasing censorship by Big Tech companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

Bluzelle CTO Neeraj Murarka, sat down with news.Bitcoin.com to talk about why he is against censorship. He said that censorship was never effective in silencing anyone. In fact, he said that censorship made people want to know more about what the other party is trying to say.

Murarka said, “. . .history has shown that when something is banned, it usually stirs up more interest and the opposite is achieved.” He added that if the controversial topic or product is “left out in the open” for everyone to see and discuss, people will almost always stamp out the negative side of it in favor of the positive.

Murarka stressed that he does not favor hate speech but he said that individuals should have the right to free speech because he is confident that ultimately people will stamp out hate speech.

Other popular individuals share Murarka’s thoughts on censorship, more recently Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis and conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

DeSantis was interviewed by Newsmax TV and said that censorship is nothing but “political manipulation.” He added that Florida is working to fight censorship and he is confident that other states would follow its lead.

Kennedy bore the brunt of social media censorship when he was banned from posting on Instagram due to his anti-vaccination ideas. Kennedy labeled the move “counter productive” and criticized the tech company for silencing him.
