State Rep. Chris Sprowls (R-Palm Harbor) supports a proposal that would ban local governments in Florida from investing in Big Tech after it silenced President Donald Trump.
“If democracy is going to survive, we must stand up to Big Tech oligarchs and demand transparency,” Sprowls tweeted. “Proud to stand with @GovRonDeSantis, @LtGovNunez, @WiltonSimpson, @GovGoneWild, @DannyBurgessFL to roll out our proposal to give users control of a type of modern-day public square.”
Sprowls said this includes Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Apple, Amazon and Google.
“Big tech firms like Facebook/Instagram, Twitter, Apple, Amazon and Google have evolved into a type of 21st-century public square,” an image Sprowl shared said. “In doing so, they have received privileged access to private information and the ability to exercise control over free speech.”
The proposed bill seeks to strip Big Tech companies of their power to censor a user based on their political affiliation or opinion.
Donald Trump was banned from Twitter and Facebook following posts that allegedly sparked the storming of the U.S. Capitol Building. The rioting killed five and delayed the officiating of President Joe Biden's electoral victory.
Several Republican lawmakers also had their accounts taken down by either Twitter or Facebook.
