Republican U.S. Rep. John Rutherford told 104.5 WOKV that he planned to attend President Biden’s inauguration virtually.
He clarified that his decision to witness the inaugural online is not due to concerns about security as he believes the ceremony will be safe.
“I’m going to attend virtually, and I suspect I’ll probably have the best seat in the house, Rutherford said.
He pointed out that he believes security is better this time around compared to the day when the joint session was trying to execute their duties on Biden’s certification.
Prior to President Biden’s inauguration, Rutherford, similar to other Republican lawmakers, also called for national unity.
“The hypocrisy we see all over the country has got to stop,” he said.
A group of protesters gathered outside Rutherford’s house in Jacksonville after the violent mob attacked the Capitol building in an attempt to halt the Electoral College vote and Biden’s certification.
The protesters called for his resignation saying that Rutherfor’s objection to the certification of the presidential elections contributed to the unrest.
The Congressman, who was among the 147 Republicans who voted to overturn the election results, also condemned the D.C. riot.
