Gaetz: Impeachment is an itch that doesn’t go away with just one scratch.

U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) has spoken about the impeachment of President Donald Trump, saying there is more under the surface that might not be solved with impeachment only.

"Seems to me that impeachment is an itch that doesn’t go away with just one scratch," Gaetz said, at the House debate to decide Trump's second impeachment.

Gaetz defended Trump from the impeachment charges that he incited insurrection on Wednesday, saying that the vote was stolen in the first place.

“We have the 2020 presidential election, where the President correctly pointed out unconstitutional behavior, voting irregularities, concerns over tabulations, dead people voting and now impeachment again,” he said. These allegations were however discredited after the courts dismissed them.

Gaetz also accused Democrats of setting cities on fire over the summer and inciting more violence than the right, drawing a lot of boos from the left.

“But make no mistake, the left in America has incited far more political violence than the right. For months, our cities burned, police stations burned, our businesses shattered. Some cited the metaphor that the president lit the flame, well they lit actual flames and actual fires,” Gaetz said, much to the disapproval of the Democrats. ”And we have to put them out.”

The house voted 232 to 197 to impeach Trump, with 10 Republicans siding with Democrats.

Questions have arisen whether or not Trump would be allowed to run again in 2024 if he was removed from office.

WUSA reports that if Trump was removed by the 25th Amendment, he could run again because that does not disqualify him from running again.

However, if he is removed via an impeachment conviction, the answer gets a little more murky. Congress has the authority to disqualify someone from running for future office.

In the past, there have been times that Congress has decided not to disqualify someone from future office, so Trump’s ability to run in 2024 depends on if Congress decides to disqualify him or not.
