City of Miami issued the following announcement on Nov. 25
The City of Miami has launched a new grocery card assistance program in collaboration with Publix Supermarkets to help Miami residents who have experienced hardship and food insecurity in 2020 due to COVID-19 and the associated economic downturn. The City will be distributing $250 Publix Grocery gift cards to qualifying City of Miami residents only on a first-come, first-served basis.
Gift cards will be distributed through the Office of the Mayor and the offices of all five Miami City Commissioners. Distribution hours, locations and phone numbers for each office are detailed in the attached informational flier. In order to qualify for a gift card, residents must meet the following criteria:
- Applicants must provide a valid ID that proves residency in the City of Miami (Unsure if your address qualifies and is within City of Miami limits? Click here to verify.)
- Applicants must attest to financial hardship due to COVID-19
- Applicants must complete a paper application form
The Publix gift cards are made possible by $3.55 million in federal CARES Act funding, which the City received via Miami-Dade County. The program is limited to one Publix Grocery gift card per qualifying household and gift cards are available on a first-come, first-served basis until December 31 or until all cards are distributed, whichever comes sooner.
