CITY OF SUNRISE: NBA 2K20 Esports Tournament on November 6

City of Sunrise recently issued the following announcement.

Event Name: NBA 2K20 Esports Tournament

The City of Sunrise is holding its first-ever E-sports tournament for school-age kids. If you play NBA 2K20 on Xbox One or PS4, you’re invited to get in on the action! It’s free to participate, and the winner on each date will receive a copy of the newly released NBA 2K21. Here's the schedule:

Xbox One (register by Friday, October 16)

  • Middle/High School Division (grades 6-12): Friday, October 23, 2020 starting at 4 pm
  • Elementary School Division (grades 1-5): Saturday, October 24, 2020 starting at 10 am
PS4 (register by Friday, October 30)

  • Middle/High School Division (grades 6-12): Friday, November 6, 2020 starting at 4 pm
  • Elementary School Division (grades 1-5): Saturday, November 7, 2020 starting at 10 am

General Tournament Rules

  • All games will be played using NBA 2K20.
  • Registration is free.
  • Participants will be placed in appropriate age groups.
  • The tournament will be single elimination. 
  • The length of playing time will be 3 minutes per quarter, except for the Championship Game, which will be 5 minutes per quarter.
  • Only current NBA teams are allowed. Retro, Fantasy and/or All-Star Teams are prohibited. Please take note that the tournament is played with the latest NBA 2K20 update.
  • You are allowed to change teams during the tournament.
  • You can also change your plays and coaches’ settings during the tournament.
  • If two competing players want to play with the same team, then this is allowed.
Game Settings

  •  All Settings and Camera Views are DEFAULT. Skill level is HALL OF FAME.
  • MANUAL OR AUTOMATIC Substitutions, Time Outs, and Late Game Fouling are allowed but must be preset before the start of the game.
  • No manual substitution via START button. Substitutions are only allowed in-game via D-Pad and during called Time Outs.
  • Only current NBA teams are allowed. Retro, Fantasy and/or All-Star Teams are prohibited.
  • Team starting roster adjustments must be made before going into the game.
  • No verbal or physical abuse is tolerated and is cause for immediate dismissal from the tournament.
  • Injuries/Player Fatigue will be on.
  • If you pause the game using the START button, you must burn a timeout as a penalty. If you have no timeouts left, you will be required to take a PENALTY. The PENALTY if you are on offense, you must run out of bounds and turn the ball over. The PENALTY if you are on defense, you must commit an intentional foul.

    If the game goes into overtime, the competing individuals will be allowed to compete given the allotted time. The individual with the highest score at the end of the overtime game wins the game.

Special Provisions

  •  It is the player’s responsibility to be ready to play their tournament matches on time. 
  • Players have 10 Minutes from the announcement of their match start time to attempt to contact their opponent to set up the match. Contact information will be provided by the City of Sunrise. Failure to initiate the process of beginning the match within this timeframe will result in an automatic forfeit. 
  • It is the participant’s responsibility to report if there are any problems with lost connections during the game. Participants must contact the Youth Athletics Staff within 10 minutes via email at SLondon@sunrisefl.gov and PWolz@sunrisefl.gov to report the problem. Staff will need to know the score, quarter and time, and what caused the game connection problem. Players will be asked to restart the game in the case of Power Outages, Internet Outages, or Glitches outside a player’s control. 
  • If a participant has continued connection problems, they will get two warnings, before forfeiting the match.
  • Any player that quits a match will forfeit the game. 
Parents, you have the option to set up parental controls by following the steps below:

  • Xbox One – Sign in to your Xbox > Press the Xbox button to open the guide > Go to system > Settings > Account > Family > Select manage family members and find your child's name > Select your child’s account and now you can set up parental controls.
  • PlayStation 4 – Sign in to your PS4 > Go to settings > Select parental controls/family management > Select family management > Select the family member account > Select parental controls > Now you can set up parental controls.
