City of Coral Springs issued the following announcement on Sept. 28
Though youth under 18 are ineligible to vote, it is still important they understand the importance of democracy and our civic responsibilities as adults. To amplify the voices of our youth, the City of Coral Springs Customer Involved Government Committee is hosting “The Importance of Voting” virtual poster contest for Coral Springs students in grades K-12.
Regarding the poster contest, Mayor Scott Brook said, “Now more than ever we need to engage our young people in local, state and national politics. The decisions elected officials make often have a direct impact on their future. Students who participate in these types of activities are empowered to express their creativity and are more likely to get involved in civic duties as they reach adulthood.”
A first, second and third place winner will be selected for each grade division. The winners will have their poster shared on the city’s website, social media platforms and displayed at the Coral Springs Museum of Art. In addition, the artwork of the winners will be used in city-wide messages promoting voting leading up to the election and they will receive a certificate of recognition during a future City Commission meeting.
The deadline to enter the contest is Friday October 9, 2020 at 5 p.m. Posters must be submitted electronically. For a list of guidelines, specifications and to submit a poster, visit www.coralsprings.org/contest.
