CITY OF WESTON: Be a Good Neighbor

Nei

City of Weston issued the following announcement on Sept. 16

There is not a more perfect time to meet your neighbor - socially distanced or wearing a mask of course, if you already haven't - than Good Neighbor Day.  An integral part of our lives from childhood through adulthood, neighbors are people we come to know as friends and count on in good times and bad.

Mrs. Becky Mattson from Lakeside, Montana came up with the idea of a national holiday recognizing the importance of good neighbors in 1971. In 1978, U.S. President Jimmy Carter announced the creation of a national day aimed at raising public awareness that good neighbors help achieve human understanding and build strong, thriving communities.

Since that time in 1971, schools, organizations, governments, businesses and community groups have collaborated or taken up the educational effort to bring neighbors together in various ways and with various ideas and activities or charitable activities benefiting the community or area communities or organizations in need.

Weston is a safe community but knowing your neighbor makes every community, a closer community.  Take a minute and introduce yourself to someone you have not yet met. It's as easy as saying 'Hi, I'm ______.' You just might make someone's day.

Want to participate in a Weston Community Volunteer Group?  Once COVID-19 restrictions are relaxed, these groups will begin training programs once again.

Weston Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) provides assistance to neighbors after an emergency or disaster.  For the next training program, call 954-389-4321.

Weston Citizens on Patrol are the additional eyes and ears of the community, assisting and enhancing our own policing efforts.  Residents interested in joining may call BSO Weston District at 954-389-2010.

Weston Arts Council is for those interested in the Arts and helping make our community a fun place to live. Visit the Arts Council of Greater Weston online at 1Weston.com and email them at email.
