Florida’s small business community is urging Governor Ron DeSantis to sign House Bill 7031, a piece of legislation aimed at permanently eliminating the state’s business rent tax. The bill has already been passed by the Florida Legislature and awaits the governor’s approval.
Bill Herrle, Executive Director of NFIB Florida, expressed the significance of this development for local businesses. “The elimination of the business rent tax is something Florida small businesses have worked towards for several years, and now it is finally a reality,” he stated. Herrle emphasized that signing the bill would solidify Florida’s reputation as an advantageous state for small business ownership. “Our members encourage Governor DeSantis to sign the tax cut package, which will permanently eliminate the business rent tax. This is historic legislation that continues to make Florida one of the best states in the nation to own a small business.”
The push for this legislative change comes in response to findings from NFIB’s recent survey indicating that taxes are currently viewed as the primary challenge faced by small business owners across the United States. If signed into law, this tax relief measure would be implemented on October 1, 2025, providing immediate financial relief to many in Florida’s small business sector.
