Senator Rick Scott has introduced the More Affordable Care Act, a legislative proposal aimed at addressing rising health care costs and increasing transparency in the system. The bill responds to former President Donald Trump’s call for reforms that would make health care more affordable for families.

The More Affordable Care Act seeks to address what its sponsors describe as a “broken health care crisis” resulting from the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. According to the press release, the bill intends to lower costs, empower individuals to make their own health care choices, and allow families to shop for insurance plans across state lines.

The legislation is cosponsored by Senators Mike Lee and Cynthia Lummis and is led in the House of Representatives by Republican Study Committee Chairman August Pfluger.

Key provisions of the bill include establishing Trump Health Freedom Accounts—accounts similar to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)—which would send federal support directly to families instead of insurance companies. These funds could be used toward premiums but would not be available for abortion-related services or plans.

Additional measures in the proposal include offering more plan options intended to foster market-driven cost reductions, creating a waiver program within the Affordable Care Act so Americans can shop across state lines, and requiring any approved plan from a waiver state’s insurance commissioner to be sold on accessible exchanges such as healthcare.gov or state-run platforms.

The bill also aims to enhance an executive order by President Trump that called for greater transparency in health care pricing. Under this measure, patients would receive up-front information about prices and quality before making decisions about their care.

Protections for pre-existing conditions are maintained under Scott’s proposal. It also seeks to increase accessibility through enhancements of the Small Business Tax Credit, encouraging employer-sponsored coverage.

Scott represents Florida in the U.S. Senate and serves on several committees focused on aging, budgeting, national security, armed services, homeland security, governmental affairs, and foreign relations (official website). He assumed office in January 2019 after serving in the U.S. Navy and co-founding a healthcare company (official website). Scott maintains offices throughout Florida—including Naples, Tampa, Orlando, West Palm Beach, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and Pensacola—to assist constituents with federal matters (official website).

Scott regularly shares legislative proposals like this one through his official channels (official website).

“In case you missed it…as President Trump calls for fixes to make health care more affordable for families, Senator Rick Scott’s More Affordable Care Act works to deliver just that. This bill will fix the broken health care crisis Obamacare has created, drive down health care costs and empower Americans to take charge of their health care…” according to Senator Scott’s office.
