Senator Rick Scott has released the first episode of his “American Dream at Work” series, featuring Jon Taffer, entrepreneur and owner of Taffer’s Tavern in Orlando, Florida. In this episode, Scott visits Taffer’s restaurant to discuss challenges facing small businesses, economic growth, and recent legislation such as the No Tax on Tips and No Tax on Overtime provisions included in President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts.
The series aims to highlight stories of entrepreneurs in Florida and their contributions to job creation and local communities. Senator Scott draws from his own background growing up in public housing and building businesses before serving as Governor of Florida and then U.S. Senator. He said he continues to work so that every American can have the same opportunities.
Scott stated, “I was lucky to grow up in a time where anybody willing to work hard could achieve their American Dream. I could open my donut shop and get to work to make a better life for myself and my family. Now, government’s burdens have made owning a business more difficult. Jon Taffer knows, both from his own businesses and his work with others, what makes it hard for people to succeed these days. We both know that a business’s success and its failure can be determined by something as simple as one insurmountable government regulation, a few days, or a few hundred dollars. During my visit to his restaurant in Orlando, we discussed how government needs to get out of the way and regulations need to be rolled back so that more hard-working American men and women can achieve their American Dreams, too. When I was elected, I promised to fight to Make Washington Work – which means shrinking government, cutting taxes, reducing spending, and supporting small businesses. I will keep fighting to make sure people like Jon have the freedom to help businesses grow, create good-paying jobs that help families succeed, and ensure every American can achieve their American Dream.”
Scott represents Florida in the U.S. Senate since January 2019 according to his official website. He operates district offices across several cities including Naples, Tampa, Orlando, West Palm Beach, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and Pensacola according to the same source. For the 119th Congress he chairs the Senate Special Committee on Aging while also holding seats on committees such as Budget; Armed Services; Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs; and Foreign Relations as detailed on his website. Before entering politics he served in the U.S. Navy and co-founded a healthcare company according to official information.
Scott regularly shares legislative proposals and statements related to national or state issues through his website as indicated online.
