Senator Ashley Moody announced on May 5 her support for Florida’s more than three million small businesses by cosponsoring a Senate Resolution that recognizes May 3 to May 9 as National Small Business Week. The resolution aims to celebrate the contributions of small businesses and entrepreneurs across the United States.
The topic is significant because small businesses are a major part of Florida’s economy, employing millions and contributing to community growth. According to Senator Moody, “It’s National Small Business Week, and there’s no better place in America to start and grow a business than Florida. Our small businesses are the backbone of our economy, driving innovation, creating jobs, and keeping our communities strong. I will continue fighting to ensure entrepreneurs have the freedom and opportunity to succeed.”
Florida is home to approximately 3.5 million small businesses, which make up nearly all (99.8%) of the state’s total businesses and employ almost four million people. A recent report ranked Florida as the best place in the country to start a business.
Nationally, there are more than 36.2 million small businesses supporting over 62.3 million jobs throughout the United States.
Moody has volunteered with domestic violence victims while practicing law, serves on Senate committees such as judiciary and homeland security, grew up in Plant City as a fifth-generation Floridian, holds degrees from both University of Florida and Stetson University College of Law, is married with two sons, and serves on additional committees including health, education, labor and pensions as well as the joint economic committee—according to the official website.
As recognition for National Small Business Week continues through May 9 this year at both state and national levels, supporters say these efforts highlight ongoing opportunities for entrepreneurs.
