Rep. Kat Cammack announced on April 17 the launch of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of Seafood, alongside U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, and White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett.
The new office is intended to strengthen the domestic seafood industry, support American fishermen and aquaculture producers, and expand access to markets for American seafood both domestically and internationally.
Cammack said she was proud to be part of launching the first-ever USDA Office of Seafood. “Food security is national security which means prioritizing domestic production and strengthening our food supply here at home. From our Florida coasts to communities across the country, we’re cutting red tape, backing our fishermen, and ensuring American seafood competes—and wins—on the world stage,” Cammack said.
She added that “this office will not only elevate and support commercial production, but also advance commonsense conservation so future generations can thrive in this industry.” She thanked Secretaries Rollins, Lutnick, Hassett, Burgum as well as President Trump for their leadership on this initiative.
Florida’s aquaculture sector supports thousands of jobs in rural and coastal economies with a particular impact in North Central Florida. As Chairwoman of the Aquaculture Caucus in Congress, Cammack has advocated for policies promoting domestic aquaculture and investing in food security for Americans.
Cammack has served in Congress representing Florida’s 3rd district since 2021 after replacing Ted Yoho according to official records. She previously served in the Florida House of Representatives as reported by House.gov. Born in Denver in 1988 and currently living in Gainesville according to local news sources, she graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver with a Bachelor’s degree as reported by her alma mater.
