Brandon Bernard Williams, age 41 of Palmetto, has been indicted for possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, according to an April 22 announcement from U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe. If found guilty, Williams could face up to 15 years in federal prison.

The indictment alleges that on March 5, Williams was found with ammunition despite having previous felony convictions, including a prior firearms offense. At the time of this alleged offense, Williams was serving supervised release related to earlier federal convictions. Federal law prohibits individuals with felony records from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Officials emphasized that an indictment is only a formal charge and does not imply guilt; all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven otherwise in court.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Jeff Chang will prosecute it.

This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, which coordinates Department of Justice resources to address illegal immigration and combat violent crime by targeting cartels and transnational criminal organizations through initiatives such as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
