North Florida Baseball lost its midweek game against No. 8 Florida State, 4-1, at Harmon Stadium on April 21.

The result marks a setback for North Florida as the team continues its season. The game featured notable performances from several players despite the loss.

Boone Hosey, a redshirt junior utility player, extended his on-base streak to 27 games by going 1-for-4 at the plate. Hosey has now reached base safely in 33 of the 36 games he has played this season and has recorded a hit in 28 of those contests. Redshirt freshman outfielder Sean Benjamin contributed with a hit in his three at-bats against Florida State and has posted hits in 26 of his 35 games this year.

Florida State took an early lead by scoring one run in the top of the third inning and added runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to go up by three runs. Junior infielder Mathew Farner brought North Florida closer with his thirty-first run batted in (RBI) of the season via a sacrifice fly during the bottom of the sixth inning, cutting the deficit to two runs.

Jackson Schrafft, a redshirt junior utility player, delivered a pinch-hit double off the left-field wall in the bottom of the ninth inning but North Florida was unable to close further on their opponent’s lead before time ran out. Clay Hendry took his fourth loss after pitching three innings for North Florida while Manny Lantigua earned his first win for Florida State; Dallis Moran recorded his first save.

North Florida is scheduled to travel to Fort Myers for a three-game weekend series against FGCU from April 23 through April 25.
