Nine individuals have been indicted on federal charges in the Pensacola division of the Northern District of Florida, according to an announcement from United States Attorney John P. Heekin.
The indictments include several cases involving illegal reentry after deportation or removal. Basilio Coxcahua-Arohua, Marco Olavarrieta-Beranza, and Roberto Rios-Narvaez, all citizens of Mexico; Luis Manuel Moscoso-Vidal, a citizen of Guatemala; and Melvin Roberto Saavedra-Vasquez, Edin Francisco Trinidad-Moradel, and Yunior Joehl Vasquez-Garcia, all citizens of Honduras, were each charged with illegal reentry.
Two residents of Pensacola were also indicted. Tyronzia Roquza Levine faces charges including possession with intent to distribute more than five grams of methamphetamine as well as cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana; possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime; and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Isaiah Markeis Sims was indicted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Law enforcement agencies involved in these investigations include U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Assistant United States Attorneys Brooke A. DiSalvo and Jessica S. Etherton are prosecuting the cases.
“An indictment is merely an allegation by a grand jury that a defendant has committed a violation of federal criminal law and is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial,” according to the statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
These prosecutions fall under Operation Take Back America—a national initiative by the Department of Justice focused on countering illegal immigration as well as dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida is one among 94 such offices serving under direction from the Attorney General. More information about this office can be found at http://www.justice.gov/usao/fln/index.html.
