Pasco County small business owners met with Congressman Gus Bilirakis in Odessa to discuss current issues facing local businesses and federal policies impacting them. The roundtable was hosted by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) at Manufacturers Distributors Inc., an NFIB member company.

Key topics included the repeal of beneficial ownership requirements, efforts to make the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent, and support for the REPAIR Act. The beneficial ownership reporting rule, which has faced criticism from small business advocates, was recently addressed by FinCEN through a regulation that exempts U.S. small businesses from these requirements. However, some stakeholders continue to call for Congress to fully repeal the underlying law.

Bill Herrle, NFIB Florida Executive Director, highlighted recent legislative progress: “Earlier this summer, Congress passed legislation that made the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent for Florida’s small businesses,” said Herrle. “Congressman Bilirakis was a strong supporter of making this crucial deduction permanent and advocating to get it done before it expired. He is also the Chairman for Commerce, Manufacturing, & Trade Subcommittee, where he has prioritized Right to Repair legislation, a top issue for Florida’s small businesses. We appreciate Rep. Bilirakis for taking the time to meet with our members and remain engaged in small business priorities.”

Participants also discussed ongoing concerns about access to vehicle data needed by independent auto repair shops. Some attendees urged continued advocacy for passage of the REPAIR Act in order to address restrictions imposed by automakers on sharing vehicle information with independent repairers.
