The Miami Police Department has announced the arrest of Alfonso Watt Bueno, who is charged with attempted murder following an alleged stabbing incident involving his ex-girlfriend. The announcement was made in a public statement.
According to USA Today, Miami police responded shortly before 9 a.m. to a fishing spot near the 7000 block of West Flagler Street, where they discovered a woman suffering from a stab wound to her shoulder. The attack reportedly ensued after an argument concerning a missing chain that Bueno had previously given to the victim. Witnesses reported seeing Bueno fleeing south on a bicycle immediately after the incident. The victim was transported by Miami Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.
Witness statements played a crucial role in the police investigation, as reported by USA Today. A man fishing at the scene claimed he heard a scream and saw Bueno leaving, while another bystander attempted to assist the victim with her injury. Both witnesses later identified Bueno as the attacker through a sequential photo lineup, and police said that the victim also named him as her assailant during an interview at the hospital.
The police report indicates that the victim informed detectives that Bueno confronted her about the missing chain and stabbed her before she could respond. According to USA Today, Bueno was apprehended by the Domestic Violence Apprehension Team two days after the attack and provided a full confession after being read his rights. Jail records show that Bueno faces charges of attempted felony murder causing injury and battery with two prior convictions. As of Tuesday, he remained in custody at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with his bond still pending.
