Jason A. Reding Quiñones has been sworn in as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. His nomination by President Donald J. Trump and confirmation by the U.S. Senate led to today’s ceremony, with Attorney General Pam Bondi administering the oath of office. Reding Quiñones is noted as the first confirmed U.S. Attorney under President Trump’s second administration.

In his new role, Reding Quiñones will oversee one of the largest federal prosecutorial offices in the country, responsible for prosecuting a range of federal criminal cases and handling civil litigation involving U.S. interests. The jurisdiction covers more than 15,000 square miles and includes Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Okeechobee, and Highlands counties.

“As the son of a Cuban political refugee and a proud Miami native, I am deeply honored by the trust and confidence that President Trump, Attorney General Bondi, and the United States Senate have placed in me,” said Reding Quiñones. “As the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, I will work tirelessly to protect the American people, restore impartial justice, and defend the rule of law without fear or favor.”

Before this appointment, Reding Quiñones was a state court trial judge in Miami-Dade County overseeing civil and criminal domestic violence matters. He also worked as a national security official at the Department of Justice’s National Security Division with a focus on counterterrorism issues and served as a federal prosecutor in both Virginia’s Eastern District and Florida’s Southern District.

Reding Quiñones brings military experience as well; he is a decorated veteran with 22 years in service across both the Army and Air Force where he held roles including cavalry scout, infantry officer, logistics officer, and judge advocate. He remains active as a reserve lieutenant colonel advising on legal matters related to national security at U.S. Central Command.

He earned his undergraduate degree from University of Florida with studies in anthropology and military sciences before receiving his law degree from Florida International University College of Law.

Reding Quiñones takes over from Hayden P. O’Byrne who has led since January 2025. “Mr. O’Byrne is a patriot who has faithfully served this community for many years. I thank him for his leadership and look forward to building on his successes,” said Reding Quiñones.
