FOIA Request to Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office regarding new recruits application form on July 29, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office by Sunshine Sentinel, a media organization dedicated to covering local governmental affairs. The request seeks access to a PDF copy of the application form used for recruiting applicants. This request is made under Article I, section 24 of the Florida Constitution and chapter 119, F.S., with a preference for receiving the information in electronic format.

The request highlights the importance of public records in enabling media professionals to fulfill their duties of holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency. As such, Sunshine Sentinel has requested a fee waiver, citing their role as members of the media. The organization also notes its affiliation with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit corporation that aids news media and advocacy groups in investigating government actions through FOIA and Sunshine Laws. More information about this coalition can be found on their website here.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
