The Sunshine Sentinel has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office seeking comprehensive data on all arrests made throughout the year 2023. The request was sent on September 24, 2025, and is in accordance with Article I, section 24 of the Florida Constitution and chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes.

The requested information includes detailed records such as the name, sex, race, age, date of birth, and citizenship status of each arrestee. Additionally, the request seeks booking IDs, dates of arrest, booking photos, names of arresting officers, types and locations of crimes committed, and dates when these crimes occurred. The Sunshine Sentinel has expressed a preference for receiving this information in an electronic format.

As part of its commitment to providing transparent and accountable news coverage on local governmental affairs, the Sunshine Sentinel has also requested a fee waiver for this FOIA request. This waiver is sought based on their role as a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public. Furthermore, they are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a non-profit organization that aids media companies in investigating governmental agencies through FOIA requests.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
