The Special Primary Elections in Florida are set to take place on January 28. These elections will determine the candidates who will appear on the ballot for Congressional Districts 1 and 6.

Amy Keith, executive director of Common Cause Florida, emphasized the importance of participating in these primaries. “These primary elections will determine who voters in north Florida can choose as their representative in the U.S. Congress,” she stated. Keith urged eligible voters to participate, saying, “This is why voting in primary elections is so incredibly important. We want to remind voters in Congressional Districts 1 and 6 to show up for democracy and make sure they don’t miss out on this opportunity to make their voice heard.”

The election involves registered Republican voters from Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and part of Walton County for District 1. In District 6, both Democrat and Republican registered voters from Flagler, Putnam, and parts of Lake, Marion, St. Johns, and Volusia counties are eligible to vote.

Florida operates under a closed primary system; therefore only those registered with a party can vote in that party’s primary elections.

For any questions or issues regarding the voting process, individuals can reach out to the nonpartisan Election Protection hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE.
