This week, Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Focus on Florida’s Future Budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025. The budget allocates a record $15.5 billion to Florida’s transportation infrastructure. This funding is in addition to the Department of Transportation’s recent announcement regarding financial authority to support the Governor’s Moving Florida Forward Initiative, which aims to advance congestion relief projects across the state.

“Governor DeSantis’ unwavering commitment to Florida families is reflected in his historic investments in Florida’s transportation infrastructure—prioritizing projects that reduce congestion and travel times for Florida commuters,” stated Department of Transportation Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E. “The Focus on Florida’s Future Budget equips the Department with funds to significantly increase our economic competitiveness and preserve Floridians’ quality of life. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Governor DeSantis and the Florida Legislature for their unwavering support.”

The newly signed budget includes $14.5 billion for the State Transportation Work Program, which is part of Florida’s ongoing five-year plan for transportation infrastructure. This investment will support 946 current and upcoming construction projects and other infrastructure priorities.

Unlike many states that rely heavily on federal funding, only 24% of Florida’s transportation budget comes from federal sources. The state’s budget focuses on reducing congestion and expediting supply chain movement without aligning with what it describes as politicization advocated by the Biden Administration.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) aims to reduce congestion, enhance safety, promote economic competitiveness, prioritize environmental concerns, and preserve Floridians’ quality of life.
