The Florida Gators baseball team lost 7-5 to the Jacksonville Dolphins at Condron Family Ballpark on April 21. The defeat marks the Gators’ second three-game losing streak of the season.
The loss is significant as it comes late in the season, with only one more midweek game remaining before postseason play. Florida started strong with a three-run first inning but could not maintain their momentum, allowing Jacksonville to tie and then surpass them in later innings.
Jacksonville took control by scoring four runs across the eighth and ninth innings. Despite homers from several Gator players, including a leadoff home run from Jones and another from Cyr—his fourth consecutive game with a homer—the team was unable to recover. Head Coach Kevin O’Sullivan said, “To be honest with you, I thought that we would have better at bats. He was throwing a fastball and a cutter. Pretty reminiscent of Saturday. We scored three in the first and then we don’t score again until the eighth… The pitching was good enough for us to win tonight. Obviously, we made a couple more errors… It’s just a matter of executing in key spots in the game and when the game comes calling, you’ve gotta be able to perform.”
O’Sullivan also commented on lineup options: “Our personnel is our personnel, that’s the issue at this level. There’s no trades. There’s no calling up people from Triple-A… Our players are who we have, and we better, bottom line, make them better and put them in positions to be successful.” He added praise for Blake’s recent performance at bat.
Florida now holds an overall record of 28-14 for the season after this contest against Jacksonville (22-18). The official attendance for Tuesday night’s game was 4,652.
Looking ahead, Florida will finish their eight-game homestand with a three-game series against No. 7 Texas A&M starting April 24.
