Nine projects by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) were honored with Outstanding Project Awards at the 2024 American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC Florida) Transportation Conference. The event took place on June 6-7 in Orlando, highlighting exceptional transportation studies and projects within the state.
Allen Douglas, Executive Director of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida, remarked on the achievements: “Congratulations to Florida engineering firms and Florida Department of Transportation Districts for their outstanding achievement in the design and construction of Florida roads, bridges, intersections, expressways and highways.” He added that their work ensures safe travel for residents and visitors.
FDOT Secretary Jared W. Perdue expressed pride in receiving recognition from ACEC Florida. “FDOT is honored to be recognized by ACEC Florida for these projects,” he stated. “Our team approaches each project with the goal of enhancing safety and with the community’s vision in mind.” He emphasized FDOT’s commitment to delivering resilient infrastructure that integrates innovative technology solutions.
The recognized projects included a variety of categories such as major projects, design-builds, roadway improvements, bridge constructions, planning studies, environmental efforts, special roadway initiatives, and safety enhancements. Among them was the I-95 at I-10 Interchange/Fuller Warren Bridge Project awarded as an Outstanding Major Project.
Nominations for these awards were submitted from FDOT’s seven districts along with other entities like Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. A total of 39 nominations were evaluated by a committee composed of ACEC Florida and FDOT representatives.
In addition to project awards, individual honors were also presented at the conference. The Ben Watts Partnership Award was given to recognize significant contributions to partnerships between FDOT and consulting communities. Another accolade was the SBE/DBE Utilization Award acknowledging firms excelling in engaging DBE sub-consulting partners.
