Florida Atlantic University’s women’s tennis team will compete as the No. 5 seed in the American Conference Championship, set to begin on April 16. The Owls are scheduled to play against South Florida, seeded No. 12, at Rice University in Houston, Texas.
This matchup is significant for both teams as they seek to advance in the tournament. Florida Atlantic enters with an even record of 8-8, while South Florida stands at 5-12. The two programs have faced each other sixteen times previously, with the Owls winning ten of those meetings, including a recent 4-2 victory on March 1.
Several players have contributed strong performances this season for Florida Atlantic. Redshirt sophomore Katrin Pavkova leads with a team-best dual match record of 10-4 across courts three through five. Junior Panna Bartha has played consistently on the top court since joining FAU in 2024 and holds an individual record of 8-8 this season. Fellow junior Malwina Rowinska has posted a balanced record of six wins and six losses playing on courts two and three.
In doubles competition, freshman pair Malika Amirgaliyeva and Alexia Patru have lost only one match out of six outings together. Meanwhile, Bartha and Pavkova have maintained a strong presence on court one throughout the season with a combined record of nine wins and four losses that earned them a national ranking of No. 61.
If victorious against South Florida, the Owls will advance to face either Tulsa or East Carolina—the winner from Thursday morning’s match—on Friday morning at Rice University.
