A federal inmate has received an additional two-year prison sentence for assaulting correctional officers at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex in Sumter County, Florida. United States District Judge Thomas P. Barber imposed the sentence on Davonta McCrorey, 25, of Baltimore. The new term will be served consecutively to an eight-year sentence McCrorey was already serving for a separate offense. McCrorey pleaded guilty to the charges on April 15, 2025.

Court records show that in March 2024, McCrorey left his cell and struck two federal correctional officers in the face several times, resulting in injuries. He then resisted efforts by other officers to restrain him by making verbal threats and biting one officer on the hand.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk Watson prosecuted the case.
