Edwin Tollinchi-Rodriguez, a 40-year-old inmate from Indiana, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber after Tollinchi pleaded guilty on September 22, 2025.
Court documents show that Tollinchi was incarcerated at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex in Sumter County, Florida. On September 5, 2024, a correctional officer conducted a pat-down search and found a package containing a white substance on Tollinchi. Laboratory analysis by the Drug Enforcement Administration confirmed the substance was methamphetamine hydrochloride weighing approximately 236.6 grams.
During an interview with DEA agents, Tollinchi said he had been asked to collect prohibited items from a shower in the prison and deliver them to others in exchange for $500. He also explained that within the prison system, even small amounts of methamphetamine could be sold for significant sums: “the amount of methamphetamine that ordinarily would fit in the lid of a lip balm container would typically sell for $400 inside the prison.”
The investigation was carried out by the DEA and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk Watson prosecuted the case.
