Governor Ron DeSantis provided updates on the ongoing response and recovery efforts following Hurricane Debby during a visit to Roy’s Restaurant in Steinhatchee, Florida. He was accompanied by Kevin Guthrie, Executive Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
The Governor announced the activation of the Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program, allocating $10 million to support businesses affected by the hurricane. This program offers short-term, zero-interest loans to small businesses that have suffered economic injury or physical damage due to Hurricane Debby. Business owners, including sole proprietors seeking assistance, can apply through September 30, 2024, or until funds are depleted at www.FloridaJobs.org/EBL.
In addition to financial support for businesses, state emergency personnel have been actively assessing and clearing roadways. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has completed preliminary assessments on over 10,000 lane miles of state roads. A total of 181 FDOT crews have conducted operations to remove debris from more than 6,596 miles of roads. State roadways are now largely clear except for areas that remain inaccessible or flooded.
