Nelson Omar Aguilar-Villalobos, a 21-year-old from Oakland, California, has been sentenced to five years in prison for conspiracy to distribute, receive, and possess child pornography. The sentencing was announced by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
Court records indicate that Aguilar-Villalobos engaged with others on social media to exchange child pornography. He specifically sought access to material depicting adults in sexual acts with prepubescent children. Following his prison term, he will be subject to five years of supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Heekin emphasized the importance of protecting children: “There is no greater responsibility than the protection of our most vulnerable, our children. Thanks to the outstanding work of our federal and state law enforcement partners in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Marshals Service, and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, this sick individual was stopped before he could victimize more children. My office will continue to work tirelessly to investigate and aggressively prosecute those who commit these heinous crimes.”
Nicholas Ingegno from Homeland Security Investigations Tallahassee highlighted the significance of addressing online predators: “This sentence underscores the critical importance of finding and holding these online predators to account for the evil they perpetuate online against children.”
Sheriff Walt McNeil praised inter-agency collaboration: “This case represents what’s possible when agencies unite with a common mission.” He also acknowledged the efforts of their Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) Unit.
Greg Leljedal, Acting United States Marshal for the Northern District of Florida, reiterated commitment towards apprehending offenders who target vulnerable populations.
The investigation involved cooperation between the Department of Homeland Security and Leon County Sheriff’s Office with support from the United States Marshal Service. Assistant United States Attorney Meredith L. Steer prosecuted the case.
This case falls under Operation Take Back America and Project Safe Childhood initiatives aimed at combating child exploitation and abuse through coordinated federal efforts.
