The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released on Apr. 22 a comprehensive review of their second-round NFL draft selections, updating the record to include results from recent drafts up to 2026.

The analysis offers insight into what the team and fans might expect from future second-round picks by examining trends and notable players from previous years. The Buccaneers have made 58 second-round selections across 50 college drafts, with varying levels of success among those chosen.

Among the most successful are Mike Alstott and Lavonte David, both considered franchise greats. Antoine Winfield Jr., another standout, earned first-team Associated Press All-Pro honors in 2023. James Wilder remains the team’s all-time leading rusher, while Donovan Smith provided long-term stability at tackle. The team also notes that some picks did not work out as planned, such as Dexter Jackson (wide receiver), Booker Reese (defensive end), Austin Seferian-Jenkins (tight end), and Roberto Aguayo (kicker).

Recent draftees like Logan Hall and Luke Goedeke from the class of 2022 became starters for Tampa Bay, as did Cody Mauch in 2023. Benjamin Morrison, selected in the second round in 2025, is expected to compete for a starting role this season.

The report details that every player drafted by Tampa Bay in the second round has played at least one game for the team. Fifty-three out of fifty-eight started at least one game; five have yet to start or were specialists like kickers. Thirty-one appeared in fifty or more games for Tampa Bay during their careers.

Mike Alstott is currently the only player among these draftees inducted into the Buccaneers’ Ring of Honor at Raymond James Stadium after playing in 158 games with significant statistical contributions including touchdowns and rushing yards. Other notable achievements include multiple Pro Bowl appearances by Alstott and others such as James Wilder, Lavonte David, Ali Marpet, and Antoine Winfield Jr., who was recognized again as an all-star in both 2021 and 2025.

The overview also discusses historical changes to draft structure—from seventeen rounds when Tampa Bay joined the league down to today’s seven—and provides a full list of every player taken by Tampa Bay in each relevant year since its inception.
