The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats will host the University of Central Florida Knights in a midweek baseball game at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach on April 21. This marks the first home midweek contest for the Wildcats since February.
The matchup is notable as both teams bring strong records into the game, with Bethune-Cookman standing at 29-11 and UCF holding a 21-15 record. The Wildcats have won 12 of their last 14 games and feature four hitters batting over .300, while UCF remains tied for third place in the Big 12 conference despite a recent slump.
In their most recent series, Bethune-Cookman started fast against Alabama A&M, scoring three runs in the first inning and ultimately securing victory with a ten-run lead after capitalizing on errors by their opponent. Andrey Martinez and Michael Rodriguez are both on 12-game hitting streaks following standout performances against Alabama A&M.
UCF has faced challenges recently, dropping out of the top 25 after losing six of seven games, including losses to Jacksonville, Kansas, and Cincinnati. However, they maintain solid team statistics with a .276 batting average and an average of nearly seven runs per game. John Smith III leads UCF with 31 RBIs while Andrew Williamson tops home runs with ten this season. On the mound for UCF will be Roman Kimball making his second start; Harbersting Abreu will start for Bethune-Cookman.
Defensively, both teams have shown strength: Bethune-Cookman has finished five of its last seven games without an error while Pablo Torres has not allowed a run in his last ten appearances. Historically, however, UCF holds dominance over Bethune-Cookman in head-to-head matchups with a record of 71-14 and winning their previous ten meetings.
