Bradley R. McVay has been appointed as Florida’s Statewide Prosecutor by Attorney General James Uthmeier, according to an announcement from the Office of the Attorney General. McVay brings experience in election integrity, civil litigation, and criminal prosecution to the role.
“Brad is a proven constitutional conservative, experienced litigator, and criminal prosecutor who has defended Florida’s laws and elections in the courtroom and beyond,” said Attorney General James Uthmeier. “He understands the stakes and shares our commitment to law and order. I have full confidence he will lead the Office of Statewide Prosecution with strength and integrity.”
“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as Florida’s Statewide Prosecutor,” said Statewide Prosecutor Brad McVay. “I very much appreciate the trust and confidence the Attorney General has placed in me. I promise to work around the clock on behalf of Florida to ensure justice is served.”
McVay previously held the position of Deputy Secretary of State for Legal Affairs and Election Integrity. In that capacity, he was responsible for legal strategy across the Department of State, managed the Office of Election Crimes and Security, acted as General Counsel during several election cycles, and represented Florida’s election laws in court cases at both state and federal levels, including before the U.S. Supreme Court.
His background also includes service at the Department of Management Services, private legal practice, and work as a criminal prosecutor in Florida’s Eighth Judicial Circuit. He holds memberships in organizations such as the Republican National Lawyers Association and Federalist Society, and was recently appointed by Governor DeSantis to serve on the First District Court of Appeal Judiciary Nominating Commission.
McVay graduated cum laude from Florida State University College of Law. He has published research on state election law topics and regularly speaks at related conferences throughout Florida.
Attorney General Uthmeier also acknowledged Deputy Statewide Prosecutor Julie Chaikin for her role during McVay’s selection process.
McVay will be sworn into his new position on August 18, 2025.
The Office of Statewide Prosecution is tasked with prosecuting crimes that cross two or more judicial circuits within Florida. The office collaborates with state attorneys as well as law enforcement agencies on complex organized crime cases spanning multiple jurisdictions statewide. The statewide prosecutor is appointed by the attorney general for a four-year term.
