Attorney General James Uthmeier has initiated an investigation into a “Pride Tea Dance” event that took place last month, issuing a subpoena to Linda Moore, Vice Mayor of Vero Beach and owner of Kilted Mermaid. The event was advertised on social media as “all ages welcome,” but featured adult performers in front of children, which may violate Florida law.

“In Florida, we don’t sacrifice the innocence of children for the perversions of some demented adults,” stated Attorney General James Uthmeier. He added that the Office of Statewide Prosecution is investigating the performance to assess its content and exposure to minors.

The event on June 29, 2025, reportedly included performers in revealing attire interacting with children. In response, subpoenas have been issued to Moore and Kilted Mermaid requesting various documents and recordings related to the event.

These include surveillance videos, employee work schedules from June 28-30, 2025, contracts or agreements with performers or entertainers present on June 29, guest lists or entry logs from the performance day, and security personnel records. Additionally, any written policies regarding age verification and admission are required.

Moore and Kilted Mermaid must provide these documents by August 8, 2025.
